Harrington Nets 29, PSNK Basketball Drops Home Opener
The Penn State New Kensington Men's Basketball team (0-6, 0-5) fell short in their home opener against Penn State York (8-2, 5-0) on Saturday at the Athletic Center, 87-53.
Penn State New Kensington showed life at halftime with a solid defensive effort, holding Penn State York to 39 points in the first 20 minutes. New Kensington was only able to muster up 24 points in the first half as a couple of shot clock violations and turnovers proved to be costly early on.
In the second half, Penn State York began to open up the game with bench players Xavier Smith and Josh Jamison widening the gap. PSNK found themselves in foul trouble down the stretch and could not play tough defense in the paint to slow down the Penn State York offense. Rashon Boone fouled out with just over four minutes left to play in regulation and the New Ken Lions were left without a player to come off the bench. After trading baskets for the remaining few minutes, the final score ended at 87-53.
The New Ken Lions were led by Junior Guard, Darryl Harrington, who was able to put up 29 points on the afternoon. Harrington was one rebound away from a double-double on the day, too. Rashon Boone also helped the cause for New Kensington putting up 11 points and six rebounds before fouling out late in the second half.
Penn State York had a balanced attack, with 12 different players recording a basket. York was led by Kris Curry-Davis and Josh Jamison with 12 points each.
Penn State New Kensington will continue it's PSUAC schedule on Tuesday, December 11th at 7 p.m. against visiting Penn State Fayette.
