Penn State New Ken opens season with 6-0 victory
The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team opened its season at home on September 8 with a 6-0 conference victory over Penn State Mont Alto at Valley High School.
New Kensington wasted no time getting on the board, as Ashutosh Pandey scored off a lob pass from Adam Bombalski minutes after the game had started. Pandey would go on to score 2 more goals in the game, finishing the day with a hat trick. Pandey's hat trick was the first ever in the New Kensington Lions three year history. New Kensington also got goals from Michael Clear, Brandon Smail, and Cordel Delzer. Bombalski and Cory Senn each picked up an assist in the game. Goalie Jimmy Cook recorded a shutout, and was only called upon to make 1 save. New Kensington finished the game with a 23 to 3 advantage in shots, and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The team will now begin a 6 game road trip. The first stop will be a non-conference game against St. Vincent College in Latrobe this Tuesday, September 11. The game has a start time of 4 p.m.
