St. Vincent defeats undermanned PSNK
The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team went into Tuesday's game against
St. Vincent College knowing they would face a tough challenge, and St. Vincent more than
lived up to those expectations. PSNK was missing three regular starters due to
illness, and the Bearcats were able to take advantage of that on their way to a
14-0 victory. The game remained relatively close through the first half, and St.
Vincent went into the half with a 3-0 lead. However the second half would prove
to be a different story. As the undermanned New Kensington team began to tire,
St. Vincent continued to push, and would go on to score 11 times in the second
half. Freshman goalie Jimmy Cook recorded nine saves after a facing barrage of over 30
Bearcats shot attempts. New Kensington's only shot attempt of the game came in
the first half off of a free kick from Michael Clear. The Lions will
have a chance to redeem themselves at 1 p.m. Saturday when they face Penn State
Worthington Scranton, in Scranton.
