Derek Caldwell hired as new Head Wrestling Coach
We are excited to announce the hiring of a new head Wrestling Coach, Derek Caldwell. "Wrestling has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. This is honestly a dream come true, that I get to coach wrestling and work with young men to help shape their lives. New Kensington and the surrounding communities, has always been a great area for wrestling, and with the connections I have made from working at camps, I know I can bring recruits in and build this program to a championship calibur.
This is Derek's first head coaching position. He attended Lock Haven University, and had a very successful career on and off the wrestling mats. He was a 3 time letter winner, and a 2 time EWL place winner. Equally as impressive as his athletic achievements were that he was on the 2008 and 2010 PSAC All-Academic team. After college, Derek wanted to continue to continue his education and took a graduate assistant position at Lock Haven for athletic administration. He graduated in 2012 with a masters in Liberal Arts.
Upon hiring the hiring of the new head wrestling coach, athletic director Dave Murray told his staff how excited he was about Derek Caldwell as the next head wrestling coach. "We are very excited to have Derek as the new wrestling coach. With his academic achievements and wrestling experience, we are excited for what he brings to Penn State New Kensington. As we look to build a solid wrestling program, we couldn't have hired a better head coach. He has worked at a number of camps, and the connections he has should be a great tool for recruiting.
We just want to congratulate Derek, and we look forward to a great upcoming wrestling season.
