PSNK Volleyball Drops First Home Game of Season
The Penn State New Kensington Women's Volleyball team (6-15, 5-9) fell to Penn State Beaver (7-20, 5-10) 3-1 (24-26, 16-25, 25-18, 19-25) on Thursday night at the Athletic Center.
It was a back and forth affair throughout the first set with Beaver coming out on top 26-24. Melissa Daugherty was able to come up with two aces in the first set and put on a dominant serving performance throughout the evening racking up eight total aces in the match.
Beaver also took the second set before Penn State New Kensington was able to respond with a 25-18 third set victory. Long service streaks by Jordan Miller and Melissa Betush paced the New Ken Lady Lions before Daugherty strung together nine straight serves to push the score to 24-18. An attack error by Beaver's Amanda Palombo gave the third set its final score.
The fourth set looked as though it was going to go in PSNK's favor as well when they jumped out to an early 8-5 lead. Both teams traded serves and pushed the score to 16-16 when Beaver was able to put together a pair of rallies and take the fourth set 25-19.
Kara Shaley and Stormie Brice were able to record eight and six kills respectively on the night, while Kennington Knapp recorded five blocks to go along with her three kills.
With the loss, Penn State New Kensington is statistically eliminated from PSUAC Playoff contention. The Lady Lions will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 20th as they host Penn State Greater Allegheny. Start time is scheduled for noon.
