Home Loss In Conference Play
Penn State Schuylkill 72, Penn State New Kensington 66
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Despite a strong second-half push and a monster performance from forward Olwadara Idowu, Penn State New Kensington fell just short on the road Friday night, dropping a hard-fought 72–66 battle to Penn State Schuylkill.
Schuylkill's balanced scoring — led by a 26-point outburst from Amir Gray — combined with timely perimeter shooting proved to be the difference down the stretch.
Slow Start Hurts New Kensington
PSNK dug an early hole as Schuylkill's physicality on the glass and pace in transition controlled the opening minutes. While New Kensington's shooting improved as the game went on, Schuylkill entered the half with momentum and ultimately hit enough big shots late to hold the lead.
Idowu Dominates Inside
The brightest spot for New Kensington was junior forward Olwadara Idowu, who delivered his best performance of the season:
⭐ Olwadara Idowu — 12 points, 12 rebounds (6–6 FG)
-
Perfect from the field
-
Game-high 12 boards (10 defensive)
-
Anchored PSNK's interior defense
His efficiency provided stability all game and kept PSNK within striking distance.
Means Leads All PSNK Scorers
Senior guard Ta'Rasi Means was aggressive from the perimeter and kept PSNK's offense afloat:
Means — 24 points
-
9–17 FG
-
4–10 from three
-
5 assists
-
Played 39 minutes
Means hit multiple threes in key moments and was PSNK's primary scorer throughout the night.
Balanced Contributions Around the Perimeter
Keith Rockmore Jr — 10 points, 6 rebounds
Rockmore knocked down two threes and provided physical on-ball defense while helping on the boards.
Jadyn Benson — 11 points (off the bench)
-
5–7 FT
-
5 rebounds, 3 assists
Benson again gave PSNK energy as a spark plug, attacking downhill and creating pressure.
Donaven Johnson — 6 assists
Though limited in scoring, Johnson impacted the game with his playmaking and 7 rebounds.
Schuylkill's Stars Come Up Big
Schuylkill was powered by:
-
Amir Gray — 26 points (11–19 FG)
-
Devin Adams Jr — 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists
-
Hadir Boswell — 10 points, 8 rebounds
Gray's shot-making in isolation and Adams' timely threes (3–5) were critical in stalling every PSNK comeback attempt.
Final Thoughts
Penn State New Kensington fought throughout the contest but couldn't overcome Schuylkill's efficiency from inside the arc and better execution in the final possessions. Despite the loss, the performances of Means and Idowu provided strong takeaways as the Lions continue pushing through conference play.
