Opening Day Defeat at Home for PSNK
Penn State New Kensington opened the 2025 volleyball season on their home court, but fell in straight sets to Penn State Beaver (20-25, 19-25, 17-25). Despite an energetic home debut and stretches of strong play, New Kensington couldn't overcome Beaver's efficiency at the net, as the visitors hit .313 overall.
The Lions kept the opening set close, fueled by steady passing and defensive intensity, but Beaver's late surge closed it out 25-20. In the second, New Kensington worked to match Beaver's offensive pace, but Beaver's .394 hitting percentage proved too much. The third saw New Kensington post its best hitting percentage of the night (.208), cheered on by the home crowd, but Beaver's depth helped seal the sweep.
For New Kensington, Madison Hoyt set the tone with 14 assists, two kills, two service aces, and a team-high 23 digs. Vada Allen provided all-around contributions with three kills, 10 assists, and 22 digs, while Emily Blatnick added three kills and two blocks. Defensively, Gabrielle Green was steady in the back row with 21 digs, and libero Emily Lewandowski chipped in 13 digs and two assists.
Though the season opener ended in defeat, the Lions showed resilience and will look to build on their home-court performance as they settle into conference play.
