Rivera Scores 21 as Fayette Tops New Kensington, 86–39
New Kensington Falls to Fayette in PSUAC Matchup
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – The Penn State New Kensington women's basketball team dropped an 86–39 decision to Penn State Fayette on Wednesday evening at the Community Center.
Fayette opened the game with a strong first-quarter surge and maintained control throughout the contest. New Kensington continued to compete defensively and on the glass but struggled to find offensive rhythm against Fayette's pressure.
Jayde Rivera led New Kensington with a team-high 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers and adding four assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes. Tori Johnson followed with 12 points, contributing on both ends of the floor, while Antonia Velasquez pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds to anchor the interior.
Despite the outcome, New Kensington battled on the boards, finishing with 36 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end. The team forced seven steals and continued to compete through all four quarters.
New Kensington will look to regroup and build off its effort as conference play continues.
