New Kensington Competes to the Final Buzzer Against Beaver
Penn State New Kensington fell to Penn State Beaver, 89–35, on Saturday afternoon at PSNK as the visitors used a fast start and balanced scoring to control the contest.
Beaver opened the game with strong defensive pressure and quickly built momentum, taking a 21–7 lead after the first quarter. New Kensington worked to find rhythm offensively in the second period, but Beaver continued to stretch the margin and went into halftime ahead 51–14.
Despite the deficit, New Kensington continued to compete after the break. Tori Johnson led the way offensively, finishing with a team-high 18 points while knocking down four three-pointers. Jayde Rivera added 13 points and battled throughout the game, while Kendra Butler and Antonia Velasquez provided effort on the glass and on the defensive end.
Beaver maintained control in the second half by sharing the ball and capitalizing on turnovers, finishing with 15 assists and shooting 48.1 percent from the field. New Kensington forced several stops late and outscored Beaver 12–12 in the fourth quarter, showing resilience to the final buzzer.
The Lions will look to build on their defensive effort and perimeter shooting as they prepare for their next PSUAC matchup.
