Rivera’s 28 Points Not Enough in Loss to Fayette
New Kensington Falls to Fayette, 71–55
New Kensington, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington dropped a 71–55 decision to Penn State Fayette in conference play on February 12.
New Kensington faced an early deficit after Fayette opened the game on a strong note, taking a 21–9 lead after the first quarter. The Lions battled back in the second quarter to cut into the margin, but Fayette maintained control heading into halftime.
In the second half, New Kensington showed resilience, outscoring Fayette in the third quarter, but was unable to complete the comeback.
Jayde Rivera led all scorers for New Kensington with an impressive 28-point performance, shooting 10-of-22 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Tori Johnson added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Antonia Velasquez anchored the paint with a team-high 11 rebounds.
New Kensington finished with 34 total rebounds and shot 78.6 percent from the free-throw line, but struggled from the field overall at 29.2 percent, including 21.4 percent from beyond the arc.
